Created a fully Speech-Enabled, PDA-based, Natural Language
Processing Architecture (patent-pending)
Working on a tight time schedule, we researched and executed a multi-disciplinary research project for a
prestigious university in Georgia in order to present a proof-of-concept for a wireless PDA-based data retrieval system. The resulting client component
relied on the speech recognition and text-to-speech capabilities of Microsoft Speech Server using Speech
Application Language Tags, or SALT. On the back end, Microsoft English Query and Full-Text Indexing were used
together for natural language processing. Knowledge of Pocket PC issues related to wireless networks, security
and voice handling were critical to the success of the project. In the final stages, RFID technology was
introduced (using Embedded C++ on the handheld) to add a proximity component and created true multimodal delivery. Development made extensive use of
DHTML, ASP, VBScript, JavaScript, CSS and a COM+ middle tier written in Visual FoxPro 8.0; supported by a SQL
Server 2000 database and stored procedures.
Developed and deployed an extensible web- and EDI-based Value Added Network
The largest transporter of vehicles from Europe to the US contracted asked us to create a flexible custom data
interchange application so that they could exchange vehicle booking information in real time with both their
transatlantic shipping partners and their manufacturer customers. The system is hosted on our own infrastructure
and communicates automatically with systems in both Europe and the US, exchanging ANSI X12 EDI packets and converting
them into XML for consumption by a .NET-based system and vice versa. A complete web-based reporting and analysis
system was also created for support and maintenance purposes. Development made extensive use of DHTML, ASP, VBScript,
JavaScript, CSS and a COM+ middle tier written in Visual FoxPro 8.0; supported by a SQL Server 2000 database and
stored procedures.
Developed and deployed a sophisticated Competitive Intelligence System
The client, the world's largest source of health news, asked us to create a complex information management system
that formed the basis of a new web-based competitive intelligence database service. We created both the back-end information
massaging piece and the user-facing pay-for-service portal. This was all created using our powerful software framework.
Developed and deployed a custom web-based Commercial/Residential Inspection System
The largest and most respected commercial and residential inspection and design company requested a system to
handle all functions of their business, from field inspections, order processing and reporting, to all in-office
administrative and back-office accounting functions. A complete web-based system was delivered using our leading-edge
software framework and Microsoft Small Business Server, and developed using HTML, ASP, VBScript, JavaScript, CSS and
a COM+ middle tier written in Visual FoxPro 8, with SQL Server 2000 on the back end. The field component of the system
was deployed on mobile PC’s connected to the Internet via built in cell modems for always on, always available access
to real-time information.
Developed and deployed a custom web-based Concrete Contractors Order and Scheduling System
A leading concrete specialist company asked us to create a system that would streamline the ordering and scheduling of
concrete work teams and tasks, including managing equipment inventory and work history. We used our leading-edge
software framework to create a system that's become indispensable to both operations and management.
Created a state-of-the-art Prospecting Productivity System
A new company with a great idea contracted with us to build the only system entirely devoted to prospecting productivity and its
related calendar-based follow-up model. Working closely together we crafted and deployed an easy-to-use yet powerful set of software tools
using HTML, ASP, VBScript, JavaScript, CSS and a COM+ middle tier written in Visual FoxPro 8, with SQL Server 2000 on the back end.
Developed and deployed a complex large-scale abstract Publishing System
The client, the world's largest source of health news, asked us to greatly improve and further automate a set of existing
processes that create many large custom technical publications in PDF form each week, some running to thousands of pages,
and each with a complex arrangement of footers, table of contents, order forms and sections. This work was done using VFP 9
and some specialized PDF and RTF generation tools, and significantly reduced the turnaround time for these critical products.
Developed a Custom Purchase Order System
A large manufacturer and distributor of raw plastics material needed a way to automate and streamline a labor-intensive process
involving lots of paper invoices, faxes and phone calls. Working extensively with DHTML, ASP, VBScript, JavaScript,
CSS and a COM+ middle tier written in Visual FoxPro 8.0, we bolted a great solution onto their existing SQL Server infrastucture.
It makes heavy use of email as an alert mechanism and also automatically ties into a non-mainstream, legacy accounting and
OLAP system.
Served as a Database Administrator for an Alabama-based multi-billion-dollar multi-national electronics
manufacturer
Working in SQL Server 2000, we created stored procedures, formed DTS packages and scheduled jobs that
encapsulated complex business rules in support of the company's supply chain logistics efforts. Provided
as-needed work flow support to senior personnel in plants around the world.
Created a Sales Forecasting Extranet System
Created a system for a New Jersey-based company that combined known customer product preferences with sales
forecasting to generate monthly sales pro forma documents and spreadsheets in support of about 25 salesmen.
Extensive use of DHTML, ASP, VBScript, JavaScript, CSS and a COM+ middle tier written in Visual FoxPro 8.0;
supported by a SQL Server 2000 database and stored procedures.
Created an Order Management Workflow Extranet System
Modernized the entire workflow process for a $150M New Jersey-based materials export company by converting
paper forms and Excel spreadsheets into a streamlined extranet application. The application manages purchase
orders, customer orders, inventory, shipping procedures and document workflow for all aspects of the business.
Extensive use of DHTML, ASP, VBScript, JavaScript, CSS and a COM+ middle tier written in Visual FoxPro 8.0;
supported by a SQL Server 2000 database and stored procedures.
Salvaged a Business-Critical Extranet System
Took over, salvaged and enhanced a troubled large-scale customer portal extranet that was a major key to
business success for a company in Georgia. Originally written in ASP/ADO with a SQL Server back-end, we rewrote
and optimized almost the entire system, reducing the actual code by over 90% while adding many new enhancements
and improving performance many times over. Made extensive use of stored procedures and UDF's in SQL Server and
introduced a Visual FoxPro COM+ middle-tier business object layer. Designed and implemented a richer user
experience through advanced DHTML, CSS and JavaScript techniques.
Developed a Proprietary Web-Based COM+ Framework
As the basis for my own business, we created and continue to enhance a sophisticated and reusable software
framework that allows rapid development of new Internet-based web solutions. Extensive use of DHTML, ASP,
VBScript, JavaScript, CSS, XML, XSL and COM+ utilizing Visual FoxPro 7.0 and SQL Server 2000.
Implemented a Secure, Heavy-Duty Web Site Infrastructure
Successfully created a secure, heavy-duty web infrastructure to demonstrate our new software framework;
specified, ordered, configured, staged and deployed all hardware and software; negotiated colocation contract
with leading local host services provider. Deployed Terminal Services Advanced Client for complete remote
administration capabilities.
Developed and Deployed an XSLT/XML-Based Intranet
This project centralized the technical resources for this Georgia-based company's software development team and
served as a proving ground for emerging .NET-related technologies.
Maintained and Enhanced a Large, Business-Critical Legacy Application
Extensive use of FoxPro 2.6 DOS/Windows, Visual FoxPro 6.0, and Visual Foxpro 7.0. Created new systems,
maintained existing systems and was the chief technical troubleshooter and trainer for this Georgia-based
capital campaign management company.
Implemented a Project Tracking and Reporting Application
Originally written in FoxPro for DOS, then ported to FoxPro for Windows; currently being moved to the web.
